When Overwhelmed with Tasks

I've had so many of those weeks and at one point, that was my life! I have ADHD which means I struggle with time management and I'm the queen of overloading my schedule because for some reason, my energy today said I'd have energy on that day in the future to do the things I've said yes to.


Inevitably, these turn into chaotic weeks and months!

Here are my 5 tips to getting through that chaotic week(s)
🧡 lots of rest whenever possible
🧡 ensure you have food, snacks, and WATER! (I'm hollering this one at me!)
🧡 make sure you have a 100%, or as close to that as possible, day to rest following that chaotic week(s)
🧡 see if you can minimize your workload/commitments moving forward
🧡 it's ok to say no to the things that will stress you out, overstimulate you, or you simply don't want to do AND you don't have to have a reason.

Many of us LIVE in this chaos consistently and that quickly leads to burnout, exhaustion, sickness, and mental health issues. The holiday season just adds to this...

Feel Like You're Constantly Behind?

In a society where hustle and busy is normal, it's hard to go against the grain. It's quite literally painful. Our minds are conditioned to be busy, be stressed, and essentially be exhausted and burnt out. So how do you become more productive to not feel like you're constantly behind?

It's a process, when you've made it to adulthood, you've already been conditioned to say and do things how you were taught as a child. That means it takes a lot longer to change it when it's become a part of you.

During my transition of slowing down the hustle and busy, I felt incredibly strange. I felt like I was missing things, my mind kept going in circles because it had so much time to think, I was stressed about not being as stressed! It feels so foreign to not be busy all the time!

Here are the steps I took to start slowing down:
1. I evaluated my schedule and removed things I hated about it where possible.
2. I started to say no A LOT.
3. I started to think about the reasons I always had to be stressed out to feel successful.
4. I started to rest more often and take better care of myself.
5. I stopped striving for perfection and instead I started striving for my best.

There are so many thing we can do to become more productive, but if we are already maxed out and burnt out, not taking care of ourselves, there's nothing I can do until you're willing to let go of the stress and hustle.

ADHD and the Struggles

I've been a little MIA on this blog, like 3 months...

Let me explain why….

I have been implementing different routines, strategies, and reevaluating where I can serve you even more as an ADHD entrepreneur.

I've been researching even more about ADHD than I have ever in my life. Do you know what I've found!? A whole lot of potential answers to things I've struggled with myself.

I have said this whole time, I don't have ADHD, I'm not like my husband or son. I've worked with many ADHD entrepreneurs that are female and I don't struggle with prioritizing or getting the tech things completed...

However I work with ADHD entrepreneurs VERY WELL and understand them like it's natural. Well maybe it is...maybe I do have ADHD for many other reasons.

I struggle with remembering things when I'm supposed to. I've learned to cope by taking notes on my phone [there are sooo many], I've learned to put EVERYTHING in my calendar and set reminders so I know what's going on [instead of that horrible feeling of having no idea if you're busy or when that Christmas party is], completely working through a meal, losing track of time easily because [hyperfocus] maybe...

I can prioritize like a boss, I can manage my time with the tools I have available, I love what I do in my business so I can stay on task [for the most part]. You don’t necessarily have to have all the “traits” or symptoms to be ADHD.

What I didn’t realize so greatly is that women are incredibly good at coping, hiding, and implementing things that help them remember, that help them get through the day, these things are internalized so you don't necessarily see them on the outside.

I started researching ADHD couples and I saw those signs even more prevalent in my life. You can get things done on a deadline, but you procrastinate. For example, I can get my entire house cleaned in a day or 2 for a gathering. Within 2 days, a week maximum, it looks like it did before…. WHY!? This one has bothered me for what seems like forever. Cleaning doesn’t bring me joy, I don’t have any form of OCD, and I have learned to ignore it UNTIL it drives me up a wall, I then hyperfocus on a certain room, feel accomplished [even if it was only the kitchen] and call it a day. That room is trashed again soon after because I haven’t mastered it and neither has the rest of the family on how to keep it clean, how to help each other out. SO we have been implementing different routines, different chore charts, different ways to engage us into doing the tasks.

Consistency is HARD for people with ADHD and I’ve rarely been consistent my whole life. Like picking up a new “HOBBY,” buying the supplies, trying it for a week or so [if I’m lucky] and then either getting frustrated or bored. Either way, I leave it. Or staying consistent on social media, the thing ALL OF US struggle with, but ADHD even more because it needs to be consistent!

I see all of these things much more clearly. So clearly, I’m afraid to post this because then it’s out there. I love to say I support ADHD entrepreneurs even though I do not have ADHD, but have loved ones that do [more than likely, all self-diagnosed at this time.]

Today I am standing strong, voicing the things I have been struggling with, sharing the tips, ways to cope, and fully embracing what is more than likely true. It answers so many questions, it’s crazy.

I’ll finish with this, the biggest things I’ve learned throughout this last year especially is that ADHD is presented in a crazy different way in women and girls, it can be hereditary, it makes keeping a house clean super difficult, and forgetting A LOT is just part of everyday life. Oh, and excessive talking during tv shows, oversharing, and even being introverted are common.

Get Your Mindset Working for You - Productivity Hack

I’ve heard and I’ve experienced it. I’m too busy to add another thing on my plate…then we do. My house is a disaster, we have next to no food in the house, and the kids are just little tornados destroying things behind me. I’m at my wits end, my last nerve is almost severed, and I’m literally going to scream and cuss if I don’t get things under control…now! My mind is seriously trying to be patient, but it’s sooo not working. I have a million things to finish! Literal sigh of being defeated, exhausted, and angry.

This is something far too many people deal with especially with young kids. I think back to when my kids were toddlers and wish I would’ve taken the time to learn some productivity hacks along with mindset shifts. Everyone talks about mindset and the words you say to yourself and how important they are. I blew it off for years. Are you that person right now, reading this, telling yourself your mindset needs no work or it’s pointless? Tough love warning…you need it the most! - I was you, now I'm telling you the tough truth.

Productivity Hack #1

Do the mindset work and watch the “magic” happen. Here’s how I get my mindset work in. I used to just sit in my office, but then I’d get crazy distracted, so I started taking a walk while listening to a mindset podcast + doing daily affirmations.

What you hear, say, and do affects everything in your life. So today, I encourage you to do these 4 things and make it happen every day. It takes awhile to create a habit and muscle memory, but you’ll start to see the changes far sooner and you’ll want to continue…willingly!

Take a walk, listening to a podcast/book/or music, really listen to learn something new or simply get that satisfaction you’re on the right track. We all can benefit from mindset work. If you’re unhappy in your situation in life right now, work on your mindset right now by taking these steps.

Do something you don’t want to do + listening to a mindset talk + doing daily affirmations + grabbing an accountability partner!

Keeping Your Sanity as an Entrepreneur

We all have those days where we are completely overwhelmed by our job, our house, our kids, and our sanity is being tested like no other. What do we do in those moments? Do we give up, maybe yell a bit, or maybe we go and take a break for a bit. Does that help? Did you fix the problem that allowed you to get completely overwhelmed to begin with!?
Here’s a little story about my last week and how my sanity was tested sooo many times. As an entrepreneur and more importantly, a virtual assistant, my sanity is tested quite frequently. I love my career path, no doubt, but just like with every other career, it can certainly test your limits. You as a person and the people in your life need to understand these limits and start putting into place a safety net for your sanity.

I own a virtual assistant agency and my overwhelm has come from a massive amount of work and not enough hours in the day for the people in the agency to complete them. That causes insane overwhelm, especially on me. I knew this was coming and now I’m kicking myself for not acting sooner. When you see these problems popping up in your business, address them asap, don’t let them simmer and grow and hide in the corner, because when they appear again, it’s going to be with a vengeance.

So how do I keep my sanity when my job is literally to help entrepreneurs keep their sanity!? It’s simple, I put systems into place, I hire out when needed, and I have a team with my husband. He’s my right-hand man, but that’s a story for another time. To keep your sanity when you are trying to do all the things, is to identify the problem before it becomes a huge problem, start to find solutions, and then act on the solutions before the issue gets out of hand and you’re left overwhelmed, stuck, and making the problem worse.

I say this from a point of I’m here, right now! Listen to your gut, pay attention to what’s going on around you, and DO IT! So my action today is putting out feelers to bring another contractor VA into my agency. If you are interested, apply here.
